LED exit signs

Commercial LED exit signs with battery backup, UL 924 listing and the patented One Touch test button. Choose One Touch for one-press testing or self-testing for no-press testing.

How to choose a commercial exit sign

An exit sign has one job: stay lit and readable when the power fails, so people can find the way out through smoke and darkness. Every model we make is an internally illuminated LED sign with battery backup, listed to UL 924, the standard US codes reference for emergency lighting and power equipment. What separates our signs from the rest is how easy they are to test.

Why LED exit signs

LED exit signs draw very little power, last far longer than older incandescent or fluorescent signs and stay evenly lit, which is why they are now the default for new construction and retrofits. Battery backup keeps the legend lit for at least 90 minutes after a power loss, the duration NFPA 101 sets for emergency illumination.

The part nobody budgets for: testing

Buying an exit sign is a one-time cost. Testing it is forever: a 30-second functional test every 30 days and a 90-minute test every year, with written records, under NFPA 101. Across a building with dozens of signs, that is hundreds of ladder climbs a year. One Touch cuts each test to a button press, and our self-testing signs remove the manual test entirely. See the full testing guide.

Red or green?

Our signs are bi-color red and green models. Most US jurisdictions accept either color, but some local codes specify one. Read red vs green exit signs before you order, and confirm with your Authority Having Jurisdiction.

Frequently asked questions

Do LED exit signs need a battery?

Yes. Exit signs in commercial buildings must stay illuminated during a power failure, which for battery units means a built-in battery that runs the sign for at least 90 minutes. All GLS exit signs have battery backup.

How often do exit signs need to be tested?

Under NFPA 101, a 30-second functional test every 30 days and a 90-minute test once a year, with written records. Self-testing signs run both tests automatically.

Are GLS exit signs UL listed?

Yes. GLS One Touch exit signs are UL 924 listed and UL 94 flammability rated.
