NFPA 101 requires written records of visual inspections and tests to be kept by the owner for inspection by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
Self-testing units make the log easier
With self-testing units, each monthly entry is a visual check of the indicator. With One Touch units, the tests themselves take a button press. See self-testing emergency lighting.
